How it works

It is easy and simple to register with Verified by Visa. All you have to do is link a password and Personal Assurance Message (PAM) to your Visa Debit card. Once registered in the program, when you shop online with a participating Verified by Visa merchant, you will be shown your PAM and asked to enter your password. The appearance of your PAM will confirm your transaction is being authenticated by United. Likewise entry of your password will help the merchant confirm you are the authorised cardholder. Once your password is checked, your identity will be verified and the transaction will be completed as normal.

Naturally, you can also use your Visa Debit card in the usual way at online stores that are yet to participate in the Verified by Visa program.

What is Verified by Visa?
Verified by Visa is a new service that links a personal password and Personal Assurance Message (PAM) to your Visa Debit card. That means that only you can use your card to make purchases over the internet from participating merchants. For added security, your PAM confirms that you are connected to a legitimate web site, and that your card is being authenticated by United.

How does Verified by Visa work?
Verified by Visa provides you with the ability to attach a password to your card to protect your online transactions, just like your PIN at an ATM. Here's how it works:
1. Select the goods or services you want from a Verified by Visa online store and proceed to the payment page.
2. Enter the payment details requested including your Visa Debit card number.
3. The online store connects with United Credit Union to check whether your card is secured with Verified by Visa.
4. A Verified by Visa pop-up window will appear on your computer screen showing your Personal Assurance Message.
5. You then check that your Personal Assurance Message is correct, and then enter your password. United Credit Union will then confirm your identity to the merchant.
6. Your payment is authorised and your order is placed.

Can I register with my existing Visa card?
Yes, you can register with Verified by Visa using your existing United Visa Debit card. You don't need to apply for a new card.

What do I do when I'm issued a new card?
If your new card is a renewal card (same number as the old one) you don't have to do anything to stay registered.

If, however, your name and/or card number change, you will need to re-register in the program. To do this, please contact Member Services during normal office hours on (08) 9382 04111 for your new registration number.

I have more than one card issued on my account. How does Verified by Visa work for the additional cards?
Verified by Visa will work for all the Visa cards on your account - simply register and create a password and Personal Assurance Message (PAM) for each one.

Do I need any special equipment or software?
All you need is an internet connection and Internet Explorer or Netscape browser software version 4.0 or above. To find out if your browser is compatible, go to the 'Help' menu on your browser home page and select the 'About' option. This should tell you which version is installed on your computer.

What if I need help?
If you need help registering your card, you should call Member Services on (08) 9382 0411 during normal office hours.

What do I do if I think someone has my password?
Call Member Services immediately on (08) 9382 0411 and a new registration number will be issued.

What are the terms and conditions for using this service?
The terms and conditions are provided for you to read and accept before you begin to register your card.

What is a Personal Assurance Message (PAM)?
When you register for Verified by Visa, you will be asked to create a Personal Assurance Message. When you pay online, a pop-up screen showing this message is your assurance that United is authenticating your password.

How will the online store know that I have signed up with Verified by Visa?
Participating online stores will automatically recognise your Visa card number if it is registered.

What if I forget my password?
Call Member Services on (08) 9382 0411 during normal office hours.

What should I do if I am shopping online and I don't get asked for my Verified by Visa password?
You can simply enter your payment details as normal and complete your transaction. It may mean that the merchant is not yet enrolled in the Verified by Visa service. Please note: You should only transact online with trusted retailers.

After I register, how long does it take for Verified by Visa to start working?
Verified by Visa is available as soon as your registration is confirmed.
